How does it Work?

Everything you need to know to enter the competition!

As a New Zealand startup, CBCNZ is your entry point to competing as a finalist at the Creative Business Cup in Copenhagen. We’re looking for the best and brightest creative startups to compete in the national final. 

A Jury of industry experts will shortlist up to six finalists who will be contacted to pitch at the New Zealand finals in July/August  All applicants must be available to travel from the 23-26 November for the world finals in Copenhagen.  

Which startups can participate?     

Any startup from the creative industries with a good business idea and a registered New Zealand Limited company is eligible to compete in the Creative Business Cup competition as long as two of the following criteria apply:

  1. At least one founder is resident in New Zealand
  2. The business headquarters is  based in New Zealand,
  3. At least 20% of employees work in New Zealand.

Additional prerequisites for participating in the Creative Business Cup include:

  • The core asset of the business must be based on creative competencies: Aesthetics, design, senses, interaction, art, visuals, gaming, media, performance, musicality in a broader sense or other creative competencies must be one of the central components of the project success.
  • The startup must be commercial. Its concept must have market potential.
  • The amount of external capital invested in the participating company must not exceed 1,000.000 USD and the creative startup must own the rights to the idea with which the applicant is entering the competition.

The following industries are welcome to participate:

Advertising, Architecture, Design, Experience technologies, AR/VR Fashion, Film, Video, Photography, Gastronomy, Leisure Activities,  Music, Radio, Television, Software, Computer Games,  3D Printing, Toys & Games.

CRITERIA

The winners of the Creative Business Cup will be startups that:

  • Show a high level of creativity, and
  • Present a business concept with great market potential.

Here is further clarification of what is considered as creativity and market potential:

Creativity:

Creative competencies must be crucial for the success of the business idea.

High marks are given to business that:

  • Innovate in terms of the product or service, social relations, customer approach, markets or other areas
  • Change the value chains of the creative industries or use creative competencies to change the value chains in other industries
  • Rely on creative skills as a key to the success of the business
  • Engage customers of others in creative processes

Market potential: The business concept must entail a high level of:

  • Investment potential.
  • Scalability.
  • Unique value proposition.
  • Present a strong overview of the existing market situation.
  • Present a good understanding of risks and possibilities.

Applications close: Sunday, July 8 2018, at Midnight.

The Creative Business Cup uses the startup platform YouNoodle for applications and collecting data. All applications must be submitted on this platform.  The YouNoodle  Privacy Policy is incorporated as part of the Creative Business Cup New Zealand Terms of Service. Terms and Conditions

A .   The Creative Business Cup New Zealand

1.    The Creative Business Cup New Zealand is an entrepreneurial competition managed by the Creative Business Cup New Zealand National Partner Cynthia       Macnee.

2.    Entrants must complete the YouNoodle applications form. The YouNoodle form contains the Privacy Policy for data collection.

3.    The competition begins on 22 May 2018 and applications close at midnight on 8 July 2018. All Entries received after the closing  date will not be valid. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to compete in the finals, date to be advised.

4.   Any startup from the creative industries with a good business idea and a registered New Zealand Limited company is eligible to compete in the Creative Business Cup competition as long as two of the following criteria apply:

  1. At least one founder is resident in New Zealand
  2. The business headquarters is  based in New Zealand,
  3. At least 20% of employees work in New Zealand.

       Every Entrant warrants that all information submitted is true, current and complete.

5.    The Organisers reserve the right to remove or delete any Entry and exclude the respective Entrant immediately if they have reason to believe that the business concept is in breach, or could be seen to be in breach of, any third party’s legal or moral right(s).

B .   Exclusions

1.    The organisers reserve the right to exclude any Entrant from participating in the Creative Business Cup  at its sole discretion.  The organisers also reserve the right to refuse to award the prize to an Entrant who is in breach of the Terms and Conditions.

2.   The Organiser will not be liable for any claims or loss, damage or injury whatsoever or for any physical or mental injury suffered by any Entrant, finalist or prise winner as a result of, or in connection with, the Creative Business Cup New Zealand competition.

3.   The organiser reserves the right to amend or change the Terms and Conditions at any time at their sole discretion, including extending, postponing or cancelling the Creative Business Cup New Zealand competition.

4.  The Terms and Conditions shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of New Zealand and shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of New Zealand courts
